Recycled Fibers (Linea Roja)

Recycled Fibers (Linea Roja)
Textiles made using recycled yarn that I found in a trash can in rural Pennsylvania. I weave a series of chumbes using a loom that I learned to build in Colombia. Traditionally, this pieces could be a couple of yards long and its worn by both female and male wrapped several times around the waist and hips to protect the belly. The ones that are shorter, could be worn as bandanas.
The poles I had been gravitating in with these works are built in the grid of personal experiences and historical events. I have borrowed the structure of the biographical narrative to conjure the anxiety caused by the search of what is “truth” in the work. Simultaneously, I have been experimenting with the duration of the physical realities I produce. This experience has made me approach textiles as a time-based medium.
